Understanding the Medical Aggregate Formula

Admission into medical and dental colleges (MBBS/BDS) across Pakistan is highly competitive. The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) outlines a standardized formula to calculate your final merit. This ensures a fair and mathematically transparent selection process across all provinces and admitting universities (UHS, NUMS, KMU, JSMU, SZABMU).

The Official Weightage Structure

The standard formula normalizes your academic scores into a final 100% aggregate using the following components:

  • Matriculation / O-Levels (10%): Your total percentage is multiplied by 0.10.
  • Intermediate / A-Levels (40%): Your FSc Pre-Medical percentage is multiplied by 0.40.
  • MDCAT Score (50%): Your obtained score out of 200 is first converted into a percentage, and then multiplied by 0.50.
Official DisclaimerThis calculator provides an estimated merit aggregate for general planning purposes. It does not guarantee admission. Admitting universities may issue specific notifications regarding minor adjustments, Hafiz-e-Quran marks, or tie-breaking rules. Always consult the official prospectus.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the official formula for MDCAT Aggregate?

The standard official formula set by the PMDC (Pakistan Medical & Dental Council) relies on a 10% weightage for Matriculation, 40% for FSc Pre-Medical, and 50% for the MDCAT score.

How are MDCAT marks converted to a percentage?

The MDCAT exam is typically out of 200 marks. Your obtained score is divided by 200 and then multiplied by 100 to get your MDCAT percentage. Half of this percentage (50%) is added to your final aggregate.

Does the aggregate formula change for private medical colleges?

Generally, private medical colleges are mandated to follow the centralized PMDC formula. However, the closing merit for private colleges is usually lower than public sector institutions like King Edward or Dow University.
